Wheelers Intro ride

New to cycling or planning to get fit again after some time off the bike?
Why not join Penzance Wheelers on one of our monthly Intro rides.

Leaving at the same time at the usual Sunday club runs, 9am from Longrock carpark (next to Jordans Cafe) these rides will be a maximum of 20 to 30 miles including a Cafe stop. Pace will be that of the slowest rider and we will plan a route that avoids busy roads and hills and we will definitely have a Cafe stop.

You don’t need to be a member of the cycling club, all you need is a roadworthy bike, helmet, suitable clothing and some money for the Cafe.

The group will be lead by a couple of the clubs experienced cyclists and the aim is to have a great time cycling with like minded people. It’s also an introduction into the type of things the Penzance Wheelers are involved in. Although we have a heritage of producing some of the best cyclists in the region we also have a large group of social cyclists.

We will run these rides under Cycling UK Guidance for youth cyclists joining social club rides

 The minimum age for unaccompanied children on any ride or event is 13 years old.  Children aged 13 to 17 years old may participate unaccompanied if they have parental permission and a signed Parental Consent form. The ride leader will decide is they think the criteria has been met to allow joining in the ride.

There is no lower age limit if accompanied by a responsible adult acting in loco parentis, but a signed Parental Consent form is still needed - please hand in your signed form to the ride leader on the day of the ride.

It is important that groups and clubs make sure that parents or guardians understand the following points:

• the demands of the cycling activity and that they alone can make the decision about the ability of their child to complete it;

• that the child may cycle with other adults and/or with other children, but that there is also a possibility of the child cycling on its own (for example with treasure hunt events);

• that while Cycling UK extends a welcome to cyclists of all ages and abilities, no special provision for children is made;

• arrangements to get to and from the event are the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian; and

• that DBS checks may not have been done on event organisers or ride leaders (in accordance with legislation).

Cycling UK, its members, agents and other participants may take photographs during the course of an event, mostly for private use but some may be for local or national publicity purposes. It may be difficult to ensure that photographs in which your child appears will not be used in any way. If you have concerns about this please speak to the ride leader or event organiser.
