It really was the friendly and welcoming attitude of the guys at PZW that encouraged me to get stuck into cycling back in 2004 and without that I may not of been able to sit back now on my smug Lincoln laurels and smile.
Am well chuffed and well proud to be a member of the wheelers.
Please say hi to all the guys and wish them a great season.
All the best & hope to ride with you soon.
Cheers.

PZW Club TT Organisation
Having just organised the first Thursday PZW club TT, here are my tips for you other organisers:
Arrange timekeeper and 2 marshalls, and check their availability in the week before the race.
Bring numbers, signs, flags, marshall's safety jackets, stopwatches, signing-on sheet, results sheet, risk assessment and pen.
Meet in lay-by north of Leedstown 6.15 - 6.30pm.
Timekeeper to collect £1 entry fees as riders sign-on and collect numbers.
Timekeeper to place signs (3) at start (I forgot to ask the timekeeper to do this!).
Sithney marshall to place signs (and collect in after last rider) at Leedstown crossroads (2), at bend at bottom of hill (2), and at Sithney (1).
Praze marshall to place signs (and collect in after last rider) at Praze (2).
Give signing-on sheet, results sheet and entry fees to TT Secretary (me). [Tony Farnell 8/05/06]
Hidden Lanes and Hills Randonee
The title was the Hidden lanes and hills, and frankly, I'm not arguing. Hilly it most certainly was. As for hidden, well, usually the hedges of the self-same lanes just served to hide more uphill gradient.
The fine weather of the previous day had disappeared, and at the start at St.Agnes it seemed Phil have made the right decision by donning winter clothing. More doom was struck into the heart of any self-respecting cyclist with the words printed on the route sheet: 'There are no cafe stops on this route.' I considered abandoning on the spot.
Off we went, by back road through Mithian, Ventongimps and Zelah, heading for St.Newlyn East.
And now...a word about Dave. Has anyone noticed how lately he'll propose we tackle a ride, only to clear off a few miles in, leaving the rest of us to it? Here it happened for the second week running, with our man doing his patented disappearing act somewhere around St.Columb.
The route proceeded to trace a winding path to Rosenannon and the bleak expanse of St.Breock Downs. A superb drop followed, down into the Ruthern Valley, to edge around Bodmin and cross the A30 in the vicinity of Lanivet.
As a strictly Penwith janner, the clay country of mid-Cornwall is real undiscovered territory for me. It was therefore feeling like a pioneer that, in the company of others, I traversed places like Rosevean, Stenalees and Greensplat.
The home leg of the route, legend had it, was where the climbing really started. Descending Henbarrow Beacon, and with St.Agnes just visible on the horizon, it was hard to believe. Soon though, believe it we did. First it was down into St. Stephen, then up out of the valley to Grampound Road. Up and down to Ladock, then a succession of ramps through tiny places like Tregear, Idless and Tregavethan, all calculated to make the legs ache.
Back to St.Agnes, and the tea and cake was scoffed down. A great ride, and great timing too - just as we were packing the bikes into the car, the rain started to fall. [Lloyd Peters 4/05/06]
Photo Complaints
Tony the tester, I wish to complain about my photo on the PZW website on 5 points:
1. That is not my best side.
2. Mark must have used some fancy fish-eye lens cos I look a bit fat in the photo!! or is it cos I was going so fast that I'm all a blur.
3. I look well gay in that pointy hat even though my mate Steve @ cycle-logic ensured me I looked really quite cool, where's that receipt.
4. I put a bloody fortune into that ride and the carbon fibre isn't even in focus
5. He hasn't captured my WHOOSH lines.
Oh bugger I have become a tester in my old age, I am a fool to myself for denying it. Lenny Pascoe said it would happen when I got to 47. [S18 Stu 3/05/06]

Assorted News and Results
A successful dinner and awards evening was held at the Old Shire Inn last Friday. Much food was consumed, particulary by Layton. Fine speeches were made. Many prizes and awards were given out, although with some it was difficult to decide if they were cycling components or sex aids. If you've any doubts consult Phil. Many thanks to Phil and Lisa for organising the whole event so efficiently.
The racing season has kicked off with the first 2 Springtime pursuits in Devon. Richard Edmond has been a real star, finishing 4th in the first race and 5th in the second race. Perhaps we all ought to reappraise our training and always sneak home early from club rides!
There was a good turn-out at the film evening last Monday for the Tom Simpson epic. Many thanks to Lloyd for his efforts. Next film evening is next week.
Tom Southam has started his racing campaign in Europe. Here are a some links to photos of Tom from his first race of the season. He is in the new bright red Barloworld kit just behind Charlie Wegelius. In the last one he is on left of team.Training camp went well for him but he is finding it all rather cold in the northern hemisphere . He is off to Portugal four a four day race next week.

Help required PZW TTs 2006
The time trial training on the Leedstown circuit proved to be popular last season. We have been obliged to put it on an official footing this year, and are proposing to put on 6 club races and 2 open races. Currently 5 these races, have organisers, but require other officials, as shown in the table below. If you wish to participate, then you must be willing to officiate in at least one other race. If we can't get enough officials the races will have to be cancelled, as the Boxing Day '10' was. Please don't leave it to the last moment or wait to be asked. Contact an organiser and volunteer. [The committee 24/1/06]
Thank you Terry and Matt for being the first volunteers. We need some of you non-commitee members to step forward. If everyone helps at one race, we'll be well on our way. [The committee 28/1/06]

Bag of Kit
As most of you know, Steve Lampier is off to France soon to join a French team at Tarbes, near to the western Pyrenees. Club runs will be undoubtedly much quieter. However, he has a bag of assorted kit that he would like to donate to newcomers to the club. Anyone interested contact Steve on 07980 300938 or stlampier@msn.com. Thanks Steve.
